"Seen in the Suffering" - 5 p.m. The River Service 03/15/2026

Mar 15, 2026    Rev. Billy Cerveny

This sermon uses a frustrating travel experience to explore a deeper spiritual question: why do we suffer, especially when we’re praying and things seem to get worse?

Drawing from John 9, the message shows that while people instinctively ask “why” in the face of pain—seeking control, blame, or meaning—Jesus shifts the focus. Instead of explaining suffering, He reveals Himself within it. Where others see problems to solve or theological puzzles, Jesus sees people and moves toward them with compassion.

The core takeaway is that God doesn’t always answer our “why,” but He consistently answers “where”—He is present with us in our pain. Rather than immediately removing suffering, Jesus offers something greater: His presence, care, and nearness, reminding us that we are seen, not alone, and deeply loved even in the midst of hardship.
